Meaning

Nature personifies Chaos or Hyle, first matter, as a ruling figure leading a king, queen and household. A knight stands ready in service and a chambermaid performs her charge. The courtly image expresses ordered activity within Nature’s account of the materials and forms of her work. The unit does not identify every household member with a metal, planet or reagent. The English makes the hierarchy clear with “ruler” and “entire household,” but does not decode the unnamed services. These figures should therefore remain contextual images of rule and assistance rather than a speculative substitution-table.
