Planting is the action requested of God through the Holy Spirit: the beginning of grace already felt in the heart is to be planted and continued. The plant-image therefore describes growth in a divine gift, not the practitioner manufacturing grace by effort. The same petition asks for governance so that the fully revealed secret will serve God's honour and the neighbour in need. Cultivation is directed toward sustained right use, not merely the initial acquisition of knowledge.
