The veil of Moses and wrathful appearance are what hinder and terrify human beings in the theological comparison of dissolution. Their removal belongs to making God knowable as gracious through the disclosure of his Son by the Holy Spirit. The qualifying respectu nostri, translated “in relation to us,” governs the passage: the change concerns human access and apprehension, not destruction or purification of God’s essence. English “veil” preserves a covering image, while “appearance” explains Gestalt in this context. The source invokes Moses without supplying a separate biography or a general repudiation of the Old Testament, which elsewhere remains part of the indispensable scriptural witness.
