Meaning

The Second Response of 1661 declares that its few words contain the treasure of the world and will fulfil the recipients’ desire. Brevity is therefore presented as concentration of value, not as evidence that nothing remains to interpret. Begriffen is rendered “contain”: the treasure is comprehended within the utterance, not said to have been physically handed over in this sentence. The claim belongs to the response’s closing rhetoric and must not be imported as the anonymous Hydrolith author’s description of his own treatise. It also supplies no independent key for decoding the response’s enigmatic expressions.
