Meaning
This family gathers several connected but explicitly different uses of birth and form. Gestalt may concern visible shape; forma may concern the determination through which a thing is what it is; birth and conception supply generative images. The shared vocabulary does not make every occurrence a technical statement about substantial form. Most decisively, Nature herself says that one instruction about form means the shape or size of a vessel, expressly not substantial or accidental form.
In the Hydrolith’s description of matter, exceptional birth and form belong to its paradoxical character. The riddle then distributes conception, birth, life and dying across hell, earth, heaven and time. These lines present an interpretive sequence, not an identified biological ancestry. In the theological comparison, Christ being formed and fashioned in us concerns the believer’s knowledge of God, not the manufacture of another divine person.
Use in the book
Nature’s dialogue gives the strongest technical development. In Nature’s Demonstration to the Erring Alchemist · unit 3 matter loses an earlier form through privation and receives another under Nature’s governance. In Nature’s Demonstration to the Erring Alchemist · unit 8 matter derives from the elements while heaven informs its quality; form becomes noble over time through purification. Human handling alone cannot produce this work.
Nature’s Demonstration to the Erring Alchemist · unit 10 deliberately changes register. After asserting her unique power to shape the human body, Nature assigns the practitioner a limited arrangement of “form”: the vessel’s right shape or size and the furnace’s proper construction. She immediately excludes substantial and accidental form from that instruction. This distinction prevents a reader from granting the practitioner the formative agency that Nature claims for herself.
In his reply, the alchemist describes matter as receiving substantial form and afterwards visible accidental form. Later he argues that gold’s determinate form cannot simply be destroyed and restored at will. These are the learner’s formulations after Nature’s teaching, and their emphasis on limits remains important. The main treatise’s Christological usage belongs to another voice and argument: God becomes graciously knowable as Christ is formed in the believer, and further growth in knowledge is still required.

Translation
The English retains “form” across many passages but also supplies “shape” and “size” where the dialogue itself explains Gestalt and grösse. These alternatives are not cosmetic synonyms: they preserve an express disavowal of substantial or accidental form. “Formed and fashioned in us” follows formiret vnd gebildet and its inward, theological object. The riddle’s separate “conception” and “birth” likewise deserve distinct lookups. This access family therefore compares uses without merging cosmological formation, vessel geometry and Christian formation into one doctrine.
