Evacuation is the removal of bodily matter, but removal alone is not the restoration Nuysement demands of a true medicine. His complaint is that purges may expel material unrelated to the disease while failing to remove its cause, or may weaken a patient whose Nature is already injured.
Excessive evacuations can follow simples badly prepared, dispensed or applied to an unsuitable case. Simple here means an individual medicinal substance, not an easy procedure. The warning is not a wholesale rejection of purgation: the author requires purging and restoration together. Its historical claims should not become advice about changing treatment or deliberately inducing evacuation.
