One person is not “more or less human” in essential being because another has stronger or more excellent powers. Nuysement uses the human example, alongside differing bodily members and other natural examples, to separate common essence from unequal actions and capacities. More and less belongs here to what a being can do, not to a scale of humanity. The example supports the distinction between differentiating parts and cutting away contrary matter; stronger members are not therefore foreign substances to be removed from the whole.
