Meaning

At LXXXVI.8–9 the good, anticipated in thought, may lead human life onward with delights. The plural τερπωλαῖς belongs to this purpose-clause, whose subject is τὸ καλόν, not Dream. Dream reveals what is coming in the preceding clauses; the resulting delight should not be flattened into an unconditional promise that all dreaming is pleasant.
