Meaning
Long waves at XXII.4 concern spatial extent; long spans of life at LXXXVII.10 concern duration. Death’s long, everlasting sleep at LXXXVII.5 joins duration with the explicit adjective “everlasting.” The wish for a long life does not use μακρός alone to promise immortality.
