English renderings
Wave; waves

Meaning

Waves provide the inhabited and moving setting of Nereus, the Nereids, Poseidon, Leukothea, and dolphins. At XXII.4 they are explicitly broken on shores and rocks. A different use appears at XIX.18: Zeus is asked to cast his heavy anger into the sea’s waves, making the water a destination for danger to be diverted away from people.
