English renderings
To shine

Meaning

Selene and Hephaistos shine, while fair weather shines with solar rays. Helios at VIII.15 and Adonis at LVI.5 are each described as “quenched and shining,” an alternation rather than uninterrupted radiance. The repeated verbs connect their imagery, but the sun’s rays and Adonis’s circling seasons supply different local settings.
