English renderings
lyre-striker; lyre-player

Meaning

The Curetes and Apollo are lyre-strikers at XXXI.3 and XXXIV.6. The compound names musical action, while their neighbouring dance and weapon titles provide different settings. For Apollo the apparatus reports “leader of the Muses” instead, a related musical role but a different word and activity. The Curetes’ reported o-vowel form should not be given an invented distinct instrument.
