Calliope

Meaning

Calliope concludes the named Muses at LXXVI.10, followed by their mother and the adopted Eunomia. The Nereids hymn also names Calliope with the designation “mother” and with Apollo at XXIV.12. These two settings preserve her place in the Muse company and a maternal address, without assigning every surrounding goddess the same parentage.
