Meaning

Blood belongs to violent delight when Ares rejoices in man-slaying blood and Dionysos in blood beside swords and Maenads. Fortune’s birth “from blood” at LXXII.4 is instead a kinship or origin-image. None automatically specifies a ritual libation. At XLV.3 the apparatus attributes singular αἵματι to Hermann against plural αἵμασι.
