blessed with offspring

Meaning

Demeter is directly addressed as εὔτεκνε at XL.13 amid child-loving and nursing epithets. At XXXV.3 the adjective instead qualifies Leto’s birth-pang, understood through its fruitful result. The same praise can therefore belong to a parent or to the birth that brings fine offspring; it need not mean that labour itself is painless.
