complete, bring to fulfilment

Meaning

The Stars complete a good course for works of repute (VII.13). In XLII.11 the printed ἐκτελέουσ’ concerns bringing good things to fulfilment in contests or labours. Its verb is secure, but the elided ending and attachment are not straightforward: a feminine participial reading or a dative-plural construction remains possible. The apparatus gives adopted ἀγάθ’ ἐκτελέουσ’ against reported ἀγαθοῖς τελέουσ’. Do not silently replace the ending with masculine -ων.
