English renderings
crafty, deceptive

Meaning

Crafty deceit accompanies Hermes’s delights (XXVIII.5) and the disguised union in Meilinoe’s birth narrative (LXXI.4). The adjective qualifies ἀπάτη in both places. In the latter, the surrounding syntax and identification of the acting figure are difficult; the adjective alone cannot settle them.
