ray; radiance; flash

Meaning

At XIX.15 faces glitter in rays or flashes; the plural πρόσωπ’ is not identified as Zeus’s face. Hephaistos shines with fiery rays at LXVI.2, while a fire-bearing flash shakes Earth at Bacchos’s emergence and surrounds Semele’s birth-pangs. These violent flashes differ from a general glow. At LXVI.2 the apparatus contrasts αὐγαῖς with αὔραις, rays with breezes.
