Meaning

Helios guides the pious but is fierce toward those acting impiously at VIII.8; the Eumenides watch the lives of impious mortals at LXX.4. Both forms are participles of a verb and therefore describe conduct. They should not be silently relabelled as inflections of the separate adjective ἀσεβής.
