English renderings
cave-dwelling

Meaning

Pan and Athena both dwell in caves in their respective hymns. The compound states a habitat or habitual setting; it does not identify the two gods or establish a shared cult site. Compare ἀντροχαρής, where the emphasis shifts from dwelling to delight in caves. At XI.5 the apparatus reports ἀστροδίαιτε, “star-dwelling,” where the adopted verse has ἀντροδίαιτε. This is a change of habitat, not merely a spelling variation.
