Meaning

Demeter in the Prayer and the Nymphs at LI.12 are praised for splendid fruit. The latter passage joins fruitfulness to pastures, herds and wild creatures, extending the image beyond cultivated grain alone. The καρπός element here means fruit, not the separately attested word for a wrist.
