Meaning
Boreas names a northern wind and can also serve as a personified name in poetry. Wind catalogues may distinguish it from other northerly winds.
Use in the book
The catalogue places Boreas beside Caecias and separately assigns Aparctias to the polar meridian. Thus “north wind” is a useful general rendering but does not reproduce every subdivision in this particular wind scheme. The distinction is necessary when following the list’s spatial relations.

Wachsmuth, volume I, printed pp. 264. The catalogue contains inconsistent alternative names. They are preserved rather than silently redistributed into a corrected compass diagram.
