“All Shall Be Well”: The Argument Behind Julian of Norwich’s Most Quoted Line

The best-known sentence in Julian of Norwich's Revelations of Divine Love is usually quoted as a piece of gentle reassurance. Does the Cloud of Unknowing Ask You to Stop Thinking?

A fourteenth-century English guide to prayer tells its reader that God can be loved but never thought, and instructs him to bury even holy reflections under a "cloud of forgetting."
