Reading Routes
A First Continuous Reading
Read the original address and canons 1–22, then move through the full sequence before consulting every entry. Mark recurring names and note what each does. Return at the end to canon 1 and consider whether the intended use of knowledge changes the meaning of the final promise.
Images of Transformation
Begin with the mute discourse of figures, then compare fixed and volatile, the creation of Adam, the captive inward fire, and the animal narrative. Write down the action shown by each image before assigning a referent. Distinguish what the words assert from what an inward or philosophical reading proposes.
The Discipline of Measure
Read canons 75–107 as a connected account of circulation, nourishment and fire. Use the essay on measure and the glossary to keep changing senses distinct. Ask how an excess that is useful at one stage could be destructive at another.
A History of Interpretation
Read the copy-text statement, the Latin ending in translation, and the three historical reception appendices. Compare the 1650 diagram with the 1893 interpretation. Identify a claim the later commentary adds and ask how far the 1623 sentence supports it.
