1481.Wachsmuth cites fragment 2 at the same comic-fragment location as the preceding excerpt, while the heading again names Menander alone. Ἀλλότριος, a stranger or outsider, contrasts with τὸ οἰκεῖον, what is one’s own or akin. Kinship here renders the closeness established by character, rather than asserting a blood relationship.

1482.Odyssey 17.218. Melanthius speaks this line scornfully about the swineherd and Odysseus, who appears as a beggar; the anthology isolates it as a saying about likeness. The second ὡς is directional, to, and is retained in the Greek.

1483.Ὁμοφροσύνη is agreement of mind or outlook. The Ionic forms φιλίην and ποιέει correspond to Attic φιλίαν and ποιεῖ; they are retained in the Greek.

1484.The source attributes this answer to Diogenes. Usener’s supplied ⟨ἔφη⟩, he said, restores the reporting verb and is marked in the English as well.
