Greek and English
The two languages are paired by passage identifier. Greek is on the left and English on the right where the format permits. On narrow screens the pair may stack, with Greek first. PDF page references identify the matching pages in this edition.
Passage numbers
II.1.15 means Book II, chapter 1, excerpt 15. Letters retain subdivisions such as 5a–c. II.1.17–18 keeps the Didymus material together. Added final numbers, as in II.1.29.1–3, divide a long excerpt for layout only; they do not create new ancient excerpts.
Source pages
Source references identify the original printed pages in Wachsmuth. In the source scan, printed page 1 is scan page 4, page 3 is scan page 6, and page 9 is scan page 12. References labeled PDF edition instead identify pages in this bilingual edition.
Editorial signs
Angle brackets mark words supplied by the editor. Square brackets retain rejected Greek wording; the notes identify its omission from the English. Vertical strokes mark editorial joins in the Didymus and Epictetus passages. Supplied particles expressed through English grammar are explained in notes.
Scope of this edition
All surviving anthology text is included: printed p. 1 and pp. 3–264 in full, ending at II.46.22. Chapters 10–14, 16–30, 32 and 34–45 retain headings only, with the missing texts marked. Wachsmuth’s Latin apparatus and scholarly appendices fall outside the anthology translation.
