The Author’s Preface

German & Latin

1723 scan 16

The Golden Chain of Homer: The Author’s Preface

1723 scan 16

So that I do not linger over a very lengthy description of natural things, which various authors have already elaborated and adorned sufficiently, even excessively, in entire folios, I proceed very briefly, touching little on unnecessary matters, above all to spare the reader the annoyance caused by a mass of paper. It should also be observed that no ornament of eloquence or elaborate style is to be sought here, since I myself, a simple man, proceed simply according to the simplicity of nature herself.
