English

Through ordinary thin excrement from children or adults, and by movement alone, several grains of ☉ can be introduced into silver from which ☉ has been separated. Crushed wheat, when first heated and burned with small plates of parted silver and the like in a well-closed cementation box, yields ☉ from ☽ in the 🜅. Fresh unsalted butter can deprive red coral of its tincture by a small manipulation and instrument. And, so far as I know, unconquerable talc can be dissolved and brought into an 🝆 only through plants and especially through animal substances. The 🝆 and salts of herbs extract the tincture of 🜍. It is abundantly known how splendidly the spirits of salt and 🝆 from the vine act at the root of all minerals and metals and open them up. Without wine and the human being it is impossible to make a perfect and genuine ☉-tincture.

About This Reading Edition

The complete supplied German–English edition of the 1682 collection: the main treatise attributed to Ali Puli, Helbig’s preface, distinct companion discourses, the short potable-gold preparation and the anonymous Father’s Last Testament, with four historical figures, 103 annotations and the full Diotimos study apparatus.

Historical Text and Translation

The governing German witness is the complete 1682 collection in Badische Landesbibliothek Karlsruhe, shelfmark 87 B 76050, with an unnumbered title and printed pages 1–80. The historical title’s Arabic and Portuguese antecedents and its authorial persona are retained as claims, not authenticated originals. Johann Otto Helbig (Hellwig), Martin de Delle, J. J. F. and the anonymous testament retain their distinct historical roles.
