The Concentrated Centre of Nature · Passage 14

German

Thaler.

English

But those who are called into the light by God’s spirit and moved in true humility to investigate his natural wonders and make them known to students of nature; those who, full of sincere, gentle love and self-denial, remain faithful to God with little knowledge and small possessions: these people, I say, I do not wish to deter from further inquiry. Rather, I exhort them fraternally to continue with zeal and, through this little book, shall myself light a lamp for them on the dark road. Yet they must first examine carefully, and entirely without self-love, whether they are chosen: whether they struggle against their evil will; whether they seek to love God above all things and their neighbour as themselves; whether they willingly help those in need. For a drink of water and a small coin given to one’s neighbour out of true love, when greater means are lacking, please God as much as a whole cask of wine or a hundred thalers given by a rich person.

About This Reading Edition

The complete supplied German–English edition of the 1682 collection: the main treatise attributed to Ali Puli, Helbig’s preface, distinct companion discourses, the short potable-gold preparation and the anonymous Father’s Last Testament, with four historical figures, 103 annotations and the full Diotimos study apparatus.

Historical Text and Translation

The governing German witness is the complete 1682 collection in Badische Landesbibliothek Karlsruhe, shelfmark 87 B 76050, with an unnumbered title and printed pages 1–80. The historical title’s Arabic and Portuguese antecedents and its authorial persona are retained as claims, not authenticated originals. Johann Otto Helbig (Hellwig), Martin de Delle, J. J. F. and the anonymous testament retain their distinct historical roles.
