Historical Definition
Genula is a plant produced by the degeneration of a transplanted parsnip.
Meaning
The definition identifies the plant by an origin story rather than by visible features. A parsnip is transplanted, and the named plant is described as a degeneration from it. The dictionary does not state the conditions or describe what changes.
Use in the Book
Dardo concerns successive generation by propagation, whereas Genula gives a particular claimed alteration of a plant. The comparison helps distinguish a general account of generation from a specific botanical assertion. The edition retains that assertion as historical evidence without supplying a modern species identification or endorsing the proposed transformation.
Places to Read
Dardo. Generation understood as a continuing succession through propagation.
