At a Glance

The word. Generation attributed to the elements.

In the book. Dardo concerns successive generation by propagation.

A place to read. The historical definition below, 1650 dictionary, unnumbered definition page 19; facsimile PDF page 347.

Historical Definition

Divertalium, or Divertellum, is generation made by the elements.

Meaning

The two forms name a kind or account of generation through its agents, the elements. No particular generated subject is specified, and the definition does not describe the stages of the process. Keep the attribution to elements rather than replacing it with a narrower reproductive explanation.

Use in the Book

Dardo concerns successive generation by propagation. Elementum defines the elemental domain through change and corruption. These entries place generation in a larger vocabulary of origins and transformation, but leave the relation between the different formulations to the author being read.

Places to Read

Dardo. Generation understood as a continuing succession through propagation.

Elementum. The elemental domain described through corruption, transience and change.
