A place to read. The historical definition below, 1650 dictionary, unnumbered definition page 41; facsimile PDF page 369.

Historical Definition

Saltz, saltz and Selenipum are brine.

Meaning

The 1650 entry repeats Saltz before giving Selenipum. Brine identifies a salt-bearing liquid rather than a dry salt named only by its place of origin. The printed repetition is retained in the modernised definition instead of being turned silently into a third distinct name.

Use in the Book

Compare Sal enixum, where the distinguishing condition is dissolution. The entries share a concern with a liquid condition, but the compiler does not expressly equate the names.

Places to Read

Sal enixum. Salt in a dissolved condition.

In This Edition

The transcription aid changes the second printed saltz to sultz. Sultz is available here as an editorial search variant, not presented as a separately attested spelling in this printed entry.
