Historical Definition
Mercurius Crudus is mercury not yet separated from its ore.
Meaning
Crude names a relation to preparation: separation has not yet occurred. The word does not by itself provide a quantitative measure of impurity or identify everything accompanying the material.
Use in the Book
Kachimia describes unripe metallic ore in its first state. Mercurius metallorum præcipitatus describes mercury extracted from metals and precipitated. These entries place the crude state beside different kinds of origin and treatment, rather than making all raw metallic materials identical.

Mercurius metallorum præcipitatus. A preparation specified by metallic extraction followed by precipitation.
