At a Glance
The word. A crystal identified through a pale appearance.
A place to read. The historical definition below, 1650 dictionary, unnumbered definition page 16; facsimile PDF page 344.
Historical Definition
Citrinulus is pale crystal.
Meaning
The definition gives a material class and a colour-like qualification. It supplies no locality, growth form or modern mineral species. “Pale” should remain the descriptive limit rather than being expanded into a precise hue without evidence.
The spelling distinguishes the entry from Citrinulum, the transparent salt made from calcined vitriol, and Citrinula, the blistering herb. The three names are worth linking precisely because their meanings diverge. A finding aid should help the reader choose the correct word rather than combine them into a single family of substances.
Places to Read
Citrinulum. A vitriol-derived salt identified through transparency and preparation.
Citrinula. A plant name with an attributed blister-producing effect.
Cherionium. A naturally fixed condition illustrated through crystal.
