Lemma.
Oublie is the older name for the thin wafer now sold as a plaisir. The narrator offers two possible reasons for the change: associations with oblation and dues, or simple caprice. The alternatives must remain open. The word should not be treated as an inflected form of oublier just because its spelling invites that association; the source itself points elsewhere. Its renaming is a small concrete instance of altered vocabulary that survives beneath much larger political acts of renaming.
