Meaning

The universal fiery spark is Nature's comprehensive ensouling power within Magnesia. Its smallness of expression, scintillula or little spark, does not limit its catholic scope. The contrast is with special sparks that determine matter toward one kind.

Use in the book

At p. 21 special sparks of the world's fiery Spirit fix ordinary things in their particular kinds. Magnesia receives one synoptically catholic spark instead and remains universal. The phrase identifies a positive formative gift: the subject is not catholic merely because nothing has yet happened to it.

The fuller statement at p. 49 repeats the spark's fiery and universal character in both Latin and German. It animates the subject's own being, outside the vegetable, animal, mineral and metallic classifications. In this context fire describes the character of Nature's living formative power.

Later special silvern and golden sparks account for metallic generation and for specification in the work. These are not additional universals competing with Magnesia. The same imagery distinguishes comprehensive source from particular determination. Nor should the spark be equated without qualification with the bright perfect spark in the separate EL-I-X-EIR explanation: that later phrase names perfected strength under a different argument.
