Meaning

Christ's declaration that he is the way, truth, and life appears in the main treatise's account of where the heavenly cornerstone must be sought. It is joined to the exclusivity of access to the Father through Christ and to Scripture's witness to him. The three nouns are therefore a personal and scriptural claim, not three separable ingredients or stages. Their inclusion also prevents the surrounding comparison with an everywhere-found material from dispersing the search among arbitrary authorities: the author directs it to the eternal Word and the Old and New Testaments.
