The Second Response opens with a speaker stepping into seven heavenly circles, grasping the highest with thoughts and standing with feet on the lowest. The contrast coordinates mental reach with bodily position rather than presenting two separate speakers. Begreiffe is rendered ‘comprehend’, preserving the cognitive force beside the bodily ‘stand’.
The first person remains unidentified. The line neither proves an autobiographical ascent nor specifies an apparatus corresponding to each body part. Its compact image establishes the response’s cosmic scale and unusual relation of high and low. No name should be supplied from the unexplained title initials to turn that enigmatic voice into a verified historical person.
