The great supper and the king's wedding are examples of parables representing the kingdom of heaven. They occur in the theological part's introductory defence of familiar images as aids to understanding hidden things. Abendmahl here names the meal in that illustrative catalogue; it should not automatically be equated with the separate discussion of the Lord's Supper as sacrament. The two are connected in a broad religious vocabulary but have different immediate functions and textual settings.
