Meaning

Subtlety is a capacity for fineness and penetration, but it is not unconditionally beneficial. Part II: matter and the work · unit 14 praises the prepared subject as more subtle, penetrating and fluid while warning that in that state it would still be harmful poison if used as medicine. Part III: benefits and their rank · unit 10 then says the tincture's subtlety prevents suitable projection into other bodies without further fermentation and augmentation. The English preserves both the comparative praise and the practical limitation. A finer agent may need adaptation to its recipient; the source does not equate maximum subtlety with immediate readiness for every use.
