Meaning

Proceeding is required because the subject reached by the preliminary work is not yet fit for the promised medicinal benefit. The text explicitly warns that in its present form it would be harmful poison rather than useful medicine. The paired learned and ordinary verbs, procedirn and fortfahren, therefore mark incomplete progress and the need for further knowledge, not a new named operation. The English “proceed and advance further” preserves that insistence. The term should not be read as permission simply to press on regardless of danger: the same sentence says that particular means and work must be understood.
