Meaning

Palingenius appears in the introductory catalogue, then returns as an authority against the misuse of wealth. The treatise gives the fuller designation Marcellus Palingenius Stellatus, introduces verses against greed, prints only their opening, and directs readers to the Sagittarius section near its end for the rest. It also asserts that his Zodiac of Nature shows he possessed the art. That is the treatise's inference, not independently established biography. The short quotation condemns love of money, while the preceding prose expressly says that wealth is not evil in itself.
