Iona is the German passage’s name for Jonah, rendered by its familiar English form. He appears in a series of Old Testament figures through which the main author says the heavenly mystery has already been signified. The unit does not retell Jonah’s story or explicitly map its details onto particular stages of the work. The name’s purpose is to establish the precedent for figurative teaching before the author proposes the earthly stone as another visible likeness of Christ.
