The indestructible fountain is one of the philosophers' names for the mercurial water in the main treatise's discussion of correcting faults. It stands beside virgin's milk and water of life, emphasizing a source of moistening and renewed strength. The same sentence expressly says that this water contains the greatest poison. The lofty fountain-name therefore does not make the material harmless or suitable for consumption. It is also distinct from the king's fountain in the Second Response, where flames and an unnamed three belong to a different enigmatic narrative.
