Governance first names the management of the preparation in the treatise's announced plan. It also names the divine direction requested by the practitioner: the Holy Spirit is asked to continue grace and govern the recipient's proper use of the secret. At completion God is called the chief governor of the whole work. The movement between practical regulation and divine government does not make them rival causes of equal rank. The worker tends and directs the undertaking, but thanksgiving assigns its principal government to God. The label “regimen” should therefore be interpreted through its object, not automatically reduced to temperature control.
