The main treatise describes Christian belief through divisions of the creed: twelve smaller articles, three chief articles concerning creation, redemption and sanctification, and seven members of the third article when its concluding Amen is counted. These numbers support a pedagogy of gradual reception rather than a new set of ingredients. Instruction should be given piece by piece so that the learner is not overwhelmed and driven away by weariness. The prepared aqueous matter supplies the comparison, but knowledge of faith is explicitly received through God’s grace. English “members or small parts” preserves the explanatory pairing of membra with stücklein, while “concluding Amen” makes the unusual Amentlichen formulation intelligible.
