Meaning
The injunction to search the Scriptures is transferred at p. 139 to the divine writing of the great World-book. Khunrath says Magnesia testifies naturally and universally of Christ and asks why readers will not come to it. His own margin cites John 5:39 “in a symbolic sense.”
Use in the book
The continuation on p. 140 joins two promised findings: testimony of eternal life and the wholesome catholic medicine of temporal life. The paired objects preserve the natural and theological offices of the subject without collapsing them into one undifferentiated salvation.
The marginal qualification is essential. It belongs to the primary text and tells the reader how the scriptural address is being reapplied. The passage does not pretend John named Magnesia literally. Equally, the symbolism is presented as consequential evidence, not a casual ornament without bearing on the true subject.
The appeal immediately precedes the defence to theologians: the Fathers and biblical teachers themselves explain faith by natural similitudes. The search injunction is thus the hinge between the positive claim of testimony and the defence of its interpretive method.

Translation in this edition
Render von … zeugen as “testify of” in this passage. The construction is testimonial, unlike the generative “beget” used elsewhere in the work.
