Poudre de violette is an odour comparison in the author’s account of a change from offensive fumes to a sweet and pleasant smell. Violet powder is not named as an ingredient added to the substance. The comparison belongs to the ensuing account of signs and repeated treatment, not to a recovery of the crystal batch already declared vitrified and useless. The passage sets that failure beside claims for preservation through moderated repetition; it does not say the failed batch was repaired. A changed fragrance is therefore one narrated sensible sign, not proof of a successful metallic transmutation or of medicinal safety. The source’s protected wording claire & flotante likewise describes a reported appearance, not a corrected reading of “flowing.”
