Meaning

The historical heading of the preliminary reader’s poem refers to a figure of the universal spirit. Wellcome describes an engraved plate in copies of the French edition. The supplied edition nevertheless reports that a matching plate has not been located in the BnF reproduction used for its reading text. A catalogue statement about a copy and an absence from an identified scan are different kinds of evidence.

The poem is included and can be interpreted as text. It does not permit reconstruction of an unseen image’s arrangement, symbols or inscriptions. This lexicon supplies no replacement diagram and makes no claim to reproduce a complete original plate suite. The present limitation is an unlocated illustration in the governing source, not proof that no plate existed or survives elsewhere.
