The stomach of the earth is the figurative place in which metals are cleansed and digested toward their natural degree of perfection. The image joins subterranean maturation with the wider digestive account of separating nourishing substance from encumbrance.
The artist observes this natural work and takes fire and water as helpers. Earth’s stomach is therefore a model for the purpose of operations, not an anatomical claim about the planet or a specified artificial vessel. Mondifiez means cleansed; digerez includes maturation. Their conjunction explains why better prepared metals are called more perfect without making every kind of heating a successful digestion.
